Al Fatihah: Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah
We at the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI) are deeply saddened by the passing of Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.
In 2019, it was our profound honour to confer upon her the title of ‘Ibu Negara’. We recognized her then—as all of Malaysia does today—for displaying the hallmarks of true leadership and serving as an icon who inspired us to celebrate our diversity as a multicultural, multiracial nation.
From her pioneering days serving as a doctor alongside midwives in rural clinics, to becoming the beloved unifying mother figure of our country, her warmth, grace, and humility remained a powerful example to us all.
