AUSMAT students showcase culinary skills

Food science and technology students from the Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) programme stepped out of the classroom and into the kitchen to demonstrate their cooking talents. This hands-on activity was part of a unique summative assessment, where students were required to investigate and prepare a dish that suits different dietary needs.

The cooking session provided a holistic learning opportunity that went beyond traditional assessment, fostering creativity and collaboration among students. They explored the science behind cooking while applying practical skills. From selecting fresh ingredients to plating their dishes, every step offered an opportunity for them to learn.

More than just a fun and engaging activity, the cooking session was designed to instill essential life skills such as time management, budgeting, understanding nutritional needs, and teamwork. It also served as an opportunity for students to share recipes from various cultural backgrounds.

As the session came to a close, students proudly presented their dishes for tasting and evaluation. From savory roasted meals to healthy sweet treats, students were praised for their creativity and enthusiasm. The session was a memorable highlight for students, demonstrating how such activities complement the academic rigor of the AUSMAT programme by nurturing well-rounded individuals.
