Empowering DBA Lecturers Through Zestify HOTS Training

On 24 January 2026, the Diploma in Business Administration (DBA) lecturers of Sunway College participated in the Zestify HOTS Training, conducted by Jack Wong from Sunway TES. The training aimed to equip lecturers with practical strategies to nurture Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) while strengthening engagement with today’s Gen Z learners.
The session began with a focus on scaffolding HOTS through the effective application of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Lecturers explored how to intentionally design activities that move students beyond basic understanding toward analysis, evaluation, and creation. Through interactive discussions and group work, participants developed subject-specific strategies to spark curiosity, build meaningful connections, and encourage creativity in their classrooms.
A key highlight of the training was understanding the characteristics of the Gen Z learner. Lecturers examined traits such as digital fluency, preference for interactive learning, and the need for relevance and authenticity in educational experiences. By evaluating current teaching approaches, participants reflected on how lessons can be made more engaging and student-centred.
The training also emphasised the importance of empathy and relevance in teaching. Participants analysed existing classroom practices to determine whether they truly address students’ learning needs and motivations. Practical insights were shared on managing Gen Z learners effectively in both large lectures and small tutorial settings, ensuring that students feel supported while being academically challenged.
The training concluded with a practical session on eLearn Ultra, where lecturers applied a suggested course design checklist to review and enhance their modules. Working in groups, they examined course structure, learning flow, content relevance, HOTS scaffolding, engagement strategies, and assessment clarity. This activity allowed lecturers to identify areas for improvement that better support Higher Order Thinking Skills, while ensuring courses remain clear, engaging, and aligned with Gen Z learners’ needs.
The Zestify HOTS Training was both enriching and forward-looking. It reaffirmed Diploma in Business Administration’s commitment to delivering quality education by equipping lecturers with innovative tools and renewed perspectives.
