MUFY’s “Hope Served Hot”

On 28 September, MUFY students and staff took part in “Hope Served Hot”, a meaningful street feeding initiative in collaboration with Dapur Jalanan Kuala Lumpur. The experience gave students a hands-on opportunity to serve the community while learning about sustainable practices.

The day began at Dapur Jalanan’s headquarters in Bangsar, where students rolled up their sleeves to prepare a hearty meal of Mee Hailam. From chopping vegetables and meat to cooking, they worked together to make enough food for 120 people. Students also learned that Dapur Jalanan composts their vegetable waste, channeling it into other projects as part of their commitment to sustainability.

In the evening, the team headed to Jalan Panggong to serve the freshly cooked Mee Hailam to those in need, including the unhomed, migrant workers, and the urban poor. In line with Dapur Jalanan’s values and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), meals were served hot and on the spot—never pre-packed—with reusable utensils that were washed and recycled after use.

The activity not only provided nourishment but also reminded students of the importance of empathy, dignity, and sustainability in community service.
