How Should the Global South Respond to Global Economic Shocks?

ASLI, Sunway University, and Citizens International hosted a public forum themed Confronting Global Economic Shocks: Lessons & Challenges for the Global South.

We were honoured to host Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Finance, alongside Shakira Teh, Senior Economist at the World Bank, and Shahril Hamdan, host of Malaysia’s No. 1 podcast Keluar Sekejap — moderated by Dr Shahridan Faiez, Chairman of Citizens International.

Against the backdrop of growing global uncertainty, the forum unpacked the structural vulnerabilities facing developing economies, the cascading effects of trade disruption and energy volatility, and what meaningful policy responses could look like for nations with less margin for error.

The session also explored how the Global South can move from being a passive absorber of external shocks to a more coordinated, resilient force in shaping its own economic future.

A heartfelt thank you to our speakers, partners, and everyone who joined us.

Stay tuned as we continue to host conversations that matter.
