Road to GE16: Polls, Youth & Timing

In this episode of Bernama World, ASLI CEO Danial Rahman sat down with Ibrahim Suffian, Programme Director of Merdeka Center, to unpack the significance of the upcoming state elections and Malaysia’s broader political landscape.

They examined current electoral dynamics, voter sentiment and the implications of recent polling data ahead of the state contests. Ibrahim noted that Barisan Nasional is expected to secure a victory in Johor, although the scale of its mandate remains uncertain, while the contest in Negeri Sembilan appears increasingly competitive.

Ibrahim also noted the growing influence of young voters following the implementation of UNDI18 and emphasised that the government should call a general election when it is institutionally and politically prepared to do so, rather than being driven solely by speculation or short-term political pressures.
